
ABOUT THE AUTHOR OF
FOOD-SAFETY Q & A

Tim Sly is an epidemiologist, with decades of experience in the public health field investigating foodborne illness outbreaks, researching, teaching, and consulting about food safety. He is Professor Emeritus at the School of Public Health, Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada and has lectured, researched, consulted, and taught about food-borne illnesses in Canada, the UK, Brazil, the Philippines, Taiwan, and the Caribbean Region.

He holds Environmental Health Officer qualifications from UK and Canada, Meat Inspector qualifications from the UK, a Master's degree in Epidemiology from the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Medicine, and a PhD in Risk Studies from the Faculty of Technology, Teesside University, UK.
Tim appears frequently in broadcast and print media, and is a co-author with Eric Liberda of the new text on "Assessment and Communication of Risk" (Springer 2023), which has a chapter dedicated to food risks, and has contributed chapters to several other texts on food-related research, diseases, and epidemiology.
